Senior Manager, Asia Sustainable Finance

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Major Functions: To support the Asia Sustainable Finance Head in expanding the scope of the team’s engagement work to North Asia through strategy development, research, and advocacy with major regional finance sector stakeholders. To work with local WWF offices in Singapore and North Asia to execute national finance sector engagement strategies. To work with WWF commodities, water, and climate experts on developing suitable risk management tools. To work directly with finance sector stakeholders to implement ESG practices into their investment and lending activities, including the development of green financial products.
  2. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Asia Sustainable Finance Head in developing strategic relationships with key finance sector and government stakeholders in Asia, with a particular focus on Japan/ Korea, and work with WWF national offices to develop finance sector engagement strategy
  • Manage research on commodities supply chains, ESG issues, and sustainability disclosure and performance by companies; write reports
  • Develop collective engagement projects with investors
  • Conduct capacity building workshops targeted at financial institutions
  • Work with banks and investors to develop ESG integration frameworks including monitoring and reporting and green financial products
  • Work with WWF commodity, climate and water experts to distill insights and knowledge into guidance tools for the finance sector
  • Keep abreast of trends and developments relevant to sustainability and finance


Required Qualifications         

  • Relevant educational qualifications, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years working experience in the area of finance or sustainability; must have experience working with financial institutions/corporates

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience developing financial products
  • A demonstrated interest in how environmental concerns relate to material business risks and opportunities;
  • General knowledge of the finance sector levers for change as they relate to sustainability;
  • Ability to analyze ESG issues and to effectively communicate these to financial institution partners;
  • Able to prioritize, work in a dynamic environment and operate under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and proactively;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Native Japanese or Korean speaker preferred
  • Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging
  • Must be able to travel internationally (up to 25%)
  1. Working Relationships:

       Internal – Relevant departments within the WWF network

External – With financial institutions, regulators, stock exchanges, responsible finance platforms and consultants, governments, other science based organisations
